ABOUT US

The cemetery's preservation and maintenance is mandated by N.J. law which requires that a portion of fees collected for the sale of all gravesites and funerals be deposited in a Trust Fund. Only the interest from this Trust can be used to pay cemetery expenses.

When Hurricane Sandy came, the cemetery suffered many costly damages but the state of New Jersey would not allow us to use part of the Trust to pay for these repairs. Thus the cemetery fell into a major state of disrepair. At this point the Board of Trustees searched for ways to augment our budget. An annual leaf clean-up was started and manned by volunteers from local service clubs and the Lakewood Firefighters.

An annual fund raising letter was also sent to any family and friends that could be identified. Since then enough money has been raised to hire a professional landscaper to mow and trim once a month from May until Sept. Maintenance equipment used by volunteers has been purchased and repaired, road repairs begun and an alternative water source installed on the exterior wall of the onsite office for public use watering gravesite flowers and shrubs. We send an annual request for donations of $50-100 to continue these projects.
